Renting a Car?

You arrive at your destination. Grabbing your luggage you make way towards the car rental booths while exiting the airport. Tired from a long trip, your eyes glaze over when the car rental clerk asks the costly question, "do you want to buy the insurance".  What should you say?

a.       Yes, I'll take it. Just give me the keys.

b.      No, I don't need it.

c.       Can I get back to you on that?

d.      Actually, because I carry liability, comprehensive (fire and theft) and collision

coverage on at least one of my cars insured at home, I know that I do not need

your pricey insurance.  Just give me the keys.

Answer d. is the best choice.  In most cases, a car rented for temporary use by you, receives the broadest coverage that is currently provided on at least one of your permanently insured vehicles.

However, purchasing their coverage will simplify things for you if you do damage the rented car.
